A Call to Purposeful Living

A Call to Purposeful Living

Islamic reflection responsibility Accountability before Allah begins with sincere reflection

After reading the above lines with reflection, and after pondering over the following Quranic verses and Hadiths, examine yourselves honestly: how many shortcomings exist in fulfilling the rights that are entrusted to you?

Today, we have turned away from many responsibilities. Among them is the responsibility of a father as a father, a brother as a brother, and a husband as a husband—how carelessly many have left their daughters, wives, and sisters unattended, neglecting their duties and obligations.

Family responsibility in Islam Protecting and guiding the family is a sacred responsibility in Islam

If you are a father, then reflect upon your responsibility as a father.

If you are a husband, then reflect upon your responsibility as a husband.

Quranic Command

And read this verse carefully:

(Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:59)

Translation

O Prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters, and the believing women to draw their outer garments over themselves. That is more suitable so that they may be recognized and not harmed. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Explanation of the Verse

In this blessed verse, Allah Almighty has not only instructed believing women regarding self-protection and chastity, but has also clearly commanded fathers and husbands to fulfill their responsibilities and rights completely and sincerely.

Women are commanded to cover their faces and bodies with cloaks or veils when leaving their homes out of necessity. They must not go out openly like slave women or immoral women. This command was given so that they may not be mistaken for immodest women and thus be harassed by mischief-makers.

Islamic modesty hijab Hijab: A divine protection for the dignity of Muslim women

During the time of the Prophet ﷺ, hypocrites would harass slave women. Therefore, Allah commanded believing women to conceal their faces and bodies so they may be recognized as Muslim women, distinct and dignified, and so that no hypocrite or evil-minded person would dare to harass or cast an evil glance upon them.

In this way, Allah preserved the honor, dignity, and sanctity of Muslim women for all times until the Day of Judgment.

The Purpose of Life

O wise believing woman! Just like men, the purpose of your life is to recognize Allah, please Him, worship Him, obey His commands, avoid His disobedience, attain salvation from Hell, and achieve success in Paradise.

(Surah An-Naazi'aat)

Meaning: Whoever restrains himself from destructive desires, then surely Paradise shall be his abode.

Purpose of life Islam The ultimate purpose of life is to worship Allah with sincerity

A Message to the Believing Woman

O believing woman! You too must strive to follow the commandments of Allah and the teachings of Islam, especially those related to dress and modesty, for these verses and Hadiths are specifically revealed for you.

Within them lies the secret of your honor, dignity, and greatness.

In this booklet, we will mention some important points related to women's clothing, necessary interaction with non-mahram men, adornment, and related matters.

Hijab modesty Islam Hijab is not a limitation but a divine protection that preserves dignity

Contemporary Challenges

In today's era, the weapons with which women are being tested are clothing and adornment. Sadly, a large portion of the Ummah has fallen into this trial, crossing the boundaries of Islam in matters of dress and beautification.

Modern challenges in Islam Navigating modern tests while holding fast to Islamic principles

Persian Couplets:

چو زہرا باش از مخلوق روپوش
کہ در آغوش شبیرے بینی

Translation: Become modest and God-fearing like Sayyida Zahra رضي الله عنها, so that you too may be blessed with a Hussain in your arms.

Causes of Immodesty

  • Love for adornment is part of a woman's natural disposition, but its expression must remain within the limits of Shariah.
  • Weakness in piety and lack of awareness of Allah.
  • Long hopes and forgetting the reality of death.
  • Relying only on verses of mercy while forgetting Allah's punishment.
  • Unnecessary attendance at public gatherings with display of adornment.
  • Absence of guardianship, or negligence by guardians.
  • Bad company and immoral friendships.
  • Poor marital relationships or abandonment by husbands.
  • Growing boldness and fearlessness.
  • Excess wealth and financial independence without moral restraint.
  • Prolonged life without a husband.

Meaning of Hijab and Veiling

Hijab means that a believing woman, adorned with modesty and dignity, should stay away from situations of free mixing and suspicion. Islam commands covering the face and the parts of the body that must be concealed because beauty primarily lies there, and beauty leads to temptation.

Islam does not imprison women—it protects them. Those who criticize Islam in the name of modernity should come closer and truly understand it.

Lifestyle of Women in the Prophetic Era

After the revelation of this verse, women during the Prophet's ﷺ time would go out only at night for necessities, fully veiled, modest, and dignified. If compelled to go out during the day, they would do so discreetly, avoiding attention, wearing simple clothing.

Warning

When a woman adorns herself with perfume, makeup, and embellishment to display beauty for men and spread temptation, the sin upon her is severe.

Look around society today—markets, weddings, public places. Muslim women who once emerged in full veiling are now seen without restraint.

The Identity of a Pious Woman

  • The beauty of a righteous woman is fear of Allah.
  • Her wealth is contentment.
  • Her jewelry is chastity.
  • Her honor lies in avoiding places of suspicion.

Hadith Warning

The Hadith mentions severe punishment for unnecessary interaction, touching, or intimacy with non-mahram women—may Allah protect us all.

﴿ وَ قَرْنَ فِى بُيُوْتِكُنَّ وَ لَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْاُوْلٰى ﴾

Translation: Remain in your homes and do not display yourselves like the women of the former days of ignorance.

This verse refers to pre-Islamic ignorance—and also warns of a later ignorance, which we witness today.

Final Note

These verses clearly establish that it is not permissible for a believing woman to expose her face before non-mahram men. Strange indeed is the condition of today's society—those who should be veiled are unveiled, and those who should not be are concealed.

Is this not the peak of confusion and misguidance?
